My favourite beaches (that actually live up to the photos)

Do you ever arrive at a beach and think...

“Well, it didn’t quite look like this in the photo”? Me too. And while I’m far too polite to name names, I’ve definitely stood on a few pebbly stretches wondering what on earth happened to the golden sand and swaying palms I was promised.

So, in the spirit of sharing only the good stuff – here are the beaches that genuinely took my breath away. No filters needed and no dodgy angles. Just beautiful places that deliver the magic in real life.

Grand Anse Beach, Grenada

A picture-perfect sweep of golden sand stretching for two kilometres, this is one of the Caribbean’s true gems. The sand is soft, the water is clear and it all gently slopes into turquoise shallows – ideal for swimming or just bobbing about lazily. It’s rarely crowded, and there’s a peacefulness here that’s hard to beat.

Sani Resort, Halkidiki, Greece

Resort beaches don’t always get the credit they deserve, but this one is exceptional. The water is crystal clear and shallow for ages – perfect for younger swimmers or anyone who just wants to wade in and float around. The sand is soft and golden, the views across the Aegean are stunning and the whole setup feels luxurious without being over the top.

Bondi Beach, Australia (and the walk to Tamarama)

Bondi itself is iconic – and yes, a bit of a scene – but the coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama is what really makes it special. The sea glistens, the rock pools bubble away, and the views are something else. Plus, there’s great coffee and that laid-back Aussie energy that’s hard not to love.

Constance Moofushi, Maldives

This is the Maldives exactly as you’d picture it. Powder-white sand, glass-clear water and tropical fish swimming around your ankles. It’s peaceful, pristine and feels wonderfully removed from the rest of the world. I’ve been lucky enough to visit a few Maldivian islands, but this one really does stand out.

Boulders Beach, South Africa

I never said every beach had to be for humans! Boulders Beach is home to a colony of African penguins, and watching them waddle along the sand and dive into the waves is unforgettable. The boulders themselves are dramatic, the water is strikingly blue, and the whole place feels wild in the best way.

If you’re dreaming of soft sand, clear seas or even a beach full of penguins…

I’d love to help you plan your perfect escape. I’ve spent years seeking out the best of the best – and these are just the beginning.
