Vancouver & Tofino
Arrive in Vancouver and settle into your hotel, chosen for its stylish design and access to the city’s best neighbourhoods. Depending on your arrival time, take a walk along the waterfront or enjoy a drink in a tucked-away wine bar – Vancouver is best explored at a relaxed pace.
Spend the next couple of days discovering this outdoorsy, cosmopolitan city. Cycle the seawall around Stanley Park, admire the totem poles and explore Gastown’s cobbled streets or Yaletown’s buzzing cafés. You can also head north to the Capilano Suspension Bridge or take to the water by sea kayak or floatplane.
On Day 4, collect your hire car and begin the journey to Tofino. Cross the Lions Gate Bridge, board the ferry at Horseshoe Bay and enjoy the scenic crossing to Vancouver Island. From Nanaimo, drive through forested interior to reach the Pacific Rim. Your base in Tofino is set between rainforest and ocean, with sweeping sea views and direct beach access.
Spend two full days soaking up the wild beauty of this coastal haven. Wander driftwood-strewn beaches, hike through towering cedars and explore local galleries at your own pace. A guided whale-watching trip is a highlight – expect grey whales, sea otters and (if you’re lucky) orcas. For a change of scenery, head to nearby Ucluelet and walk the Wild Pacific Trail.
Campbell River & Glendale Cove
Drive east across Vancouver Island to the coastal town of Campbell River. Known for its deep ties to the sea and rich wildlife, this friendly town is a relaxing stop between adventures. Settle into your lodge and enjoy a stroll along Discovery Pier or watch the boats come and go. If time allows, optional bear-watching or fly-fishing trips can be arranged.
The next morning, board a scenic floatplane for the short flight into Glendale Cove. This remote wilderness lodge sits on the edge of Knight Inlet, surrounded by rainforest, glacial fjords and tidal flats. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be immersed in nature. Explore the inlet by boat, watching for eagles, seals and the first signs of grizzlies along the shoreline.
Spend the next two days on guided excursions, quietly observing grizzlies in their natural habitat. In season, they gather in large numbers to feed on the salmon run, offering incredible viewing opportunities. Other activities include nature walks, photography outings and boat safaris, all led by expert naturalists who share their deep knowledge of the region’s wildlife and ecosystems.
Grizzly encounters in the wilds of Knight Inlet
Your stay at Glendale Cove is about as far from the everyday as it gets – a true immersion in one of Canada’s most remote and breathtaking wildernesses. From your floating lodge on Knight Inlet, days begin with the sound of water lapping gently against the shore and the sight of mist drifting through towering rainforest. Head out with expert naturalists by boat or on foot, as you explore grizzly territory during the iconic salmon run. Watch from specially designed viewing platforms as these magnificent bears fish, forage and play in their natural habitat: a quiet, powerful experience that connects you deeply to the rhythms of the wild.
Vancouver (Return) & The Rocky Mountaineer
After a final morning in the wild, return to Vancouver by floatplane and ferry. Drop off your hire car and check back into your hotel for a relaxed evening. Whether you revisit a favourite spot or take a quiet walk along the harbour, it’s a chance to slow the pace before heading inland.
The following morning, board the iconic Rocky Mountaineer and settle into your glass-domed carriage. As the train winds through river valleys and mountain passes, enjoy panoramic views, gourmet meals and storytelling from the onboard team. This is slow travel at its best. Your overnight stop is in Kamloops, with a comfortable hotel stay included.
The journey continues the next day, with scenery growing more dramatic as you near the Rockies. By afternoon, you’ll arrive in Lake Louise, ready to enjoy its striking turquoise waters, glacial peaks and peaceful forest. Check into your lodge and soak up the views.
Lake Louise & Banff
Wake to the stillness of Lake Louise, one of the most iconic sights in the Canadian Rockies. Spend the day exploring at your own pace – stroll the shoreline, hike to the Lake Agnes Tea House or simply take in the ever-changing colours of the lake. Nearby, Moraine Lake and Emerald Lake are equally impressive and well worth a visit.
From here, continue to Banff, a lively mountain town surrounded by dramatic peaks and home to hot springs, alpine trails and plenty of character. Your base is a historic hotel set against a backdrop of rugged wilderness. Ride the Banff Gondola for sweeping views over the Bow Valley, then wander the boardwalk trails at the summit or relax back in town with a good meal and a final look at the mountains.
On your final morning, travel east towards Calgary for your return flight. If time allows, stop en route at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary for a fittingly wild end to your journey.
