Family Winter in the Alps

Set high in the French Alps near the Italian border, Tignes is a winter playground that strikes the perfect balance between adventure and accessibility.

Snowflakes, sledges and alpine magic

As part of the vast Espace Killy ski area (shared with neighbouring Val d’Isère), it offers guaranteed snow, wide open pistes, and plenty of gentle runs – making it a favourite for families, beginners and those looking to build confidence on the slopes. But what sets Tignes apart is just how much more it offers beyond skiing.

Base yourself in one of its characterful alpine villages, like Val Claret or Le Lac, and you’ll discover a resort that’s buzzing with energy but still easy to navigate. A week here isn’t just about ski boots and lift passes, it’s about snowy strolls around the frozen lake, unforgettable family moments and an ever-changing menu of winter activities that suit all ages.

At its heart, Tignes is a resort built for modern families. You’ll find warm, stylish hotels with family suites, restaurants that don’t mind a bit of laughter at the table and plenty of opportunities to rest and reconnect between the thrills. Whether it’s a first ski trip or the next chapter in a growing tradition, Tignes makes winter magic feel easy, inviting and completely unforgettable.

And if you fall in love with alpine life (as many do), your trip doesn’t have to end here. We can extend your adventure to include a few relaxing days in Annecy or Chamonix – or even hop across the border into Italy for a snowy spa break.

This itinerary is perfect for Active Adventures, Family Travel, Frozen Landscapes.

While in Tignes:

Sledging for all ages

Simple, silly fun for the whole family. Grab a toboggan and head to one of the designated sledging zones – some even have gentle conveyor lifts so you can go again (and again) without tiring little legs.

Snowshoeing through silent forests

Swap the ski poles for something a little slower with a guided snowshoe trek. Wander through powder-dusted pine forests and across sparkling ridgelines, where the only sound is the crunch of snow beneath your boots.

Dog sledding adventure

Meet your team of friendly huskies and learn the ropes before taking the reins on a dog sledding experience through the mountains. It’s part thrill ride, part alpine fairy tale – and a guaranteed hit with kids and grown-ups alike.

Snowtubing & ice skating on the lake

Whizz down purpose-built snow tubing lanes or head to the west side of the frozen lake, which transforms into one of the Alps’ most scenic skating rinks. The 500-metre circuit offers views of snow-capped peaks as you glide, shuffle or spin your way around.

Moonbikes: electric snow fun

For something a bit different, hop on a moonbike – an eco-friendly electric snow scooter that lets you zoom across snowy trails with minimal effort. It’s intuitive, surprisingly speedy and a big hit with teens.

Relax & recharge at Le Lagon

After a day outdoors, unwind at the Lagon leisure centre. With indoor pools, waterslides, a wellness area and spa treatments, it’s ideal for both soothing sore muscles and keeping non-skiers entertained.

La Banquise: A magical ice world

For a true après-ski adventure, explore La Banquise – a whimsical igloo village built entirely from snow and ice. Dine in the ice restaurant, sip a cocktail at the frozen bar or take a guided tour to see how it’s sculpted each season.

Hot chocolate & crêpes in town

Tignes has no shortage of cosy cafés and slope-side terraces, perfect for warming up after a day of snow play. Don’t miss the chance to refuel with a gooey raclette or a steaming mug of chocolat chaud.
